February Newsletter 2016
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.
Kilchreest N.S. Table Quiz: This event is going from strength to strength. We had 60 teams participating this year. I would like to thank all the parents, past pupils and staff for helping on the night. A special word of thanks to our Infant teacher, Ms. Kelly, for organising the event. The quiz raised €1,000 this year.
Credit Union Quiz Teams: Well done to our 3 quiz teams who participated in the Credit Union quiz in Loughrea this year.
Clothes Collection: We had a fantastic response to our recent clothes collection. Thanks to all parents and guardians who contributed.
School closures: The school will be closed this Friday 26th February due to the General Election.
Easter holidays: The school is closing for Easter on Wednesday 16th March. Children go home at 12.30pm. Buses will run as normal. The school will re-open on Monday 4th April.
1916 Rising Commemoration/Flag Raising: As part of the celebrations to commemorate the 1916 Rising, Tuesday 15th March has been designated Flag Raising Day in primary schools. The school plans to organise activities on the day around the theme of the “Children of the Rising”. Parents are welcome to attend the ceremony on the day. I will communicate closer to the event with the schedule for the day.
Best wishes: The whole school community would like to wish Ms. Hayes and her Killimor team-mates the best of luck in the upcoming All-Ireland club camogie final v Millford on Sunday 6th March in Croke Park.
Congratulations to past pupil, David Burke, on recently being named captain of the Galway Senior Hurling team. It is a great honour for David and his family. We hope that David will be bringing the Liam McCarthy Cup back to the school in September.
Congratulations also to all the past pupils who have won Junior and Senior Connaught colleges camogie titles with St. Brigid’s Vocational School recently.
School Policies: A number of draft school policies have been reviewed and updated recently. The following are available for parents and guardians to view either on the school website in the next week or in the office:
1. Health & Safety Policy.
2. First Aid Policy
3. Administration of Medicine
4. Homework Policy
5. Parent Teacher Meetings.
We welcome any recommendations you may have. Following input from the parents it is hoped to have these policies ratified at our next Board of Management Meeting.
Enrolments: We are now taking enrolments for September 2016. If you know of anyone who might be interested in enrolling their child in the school, please ask them to contact the office on 091 840112.
World Book Day is Thursday March 3rd. Children can dress up as a character from their favourite book on that day.
If you have any queries in relation to any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact me at the above number.
Yours sincerely,
Francis O’Connor
Principal.
