Aistear – People who help us
In March, our Aistear theme was people in the community. In the play corner the children had lots of fun pretending to be at the doctor’s surgery, making appointments, explaining their illnesses and prescribing dome very strange medicines !!
In the construction area and small world, the children were busy building the various places of work in teh community- the garda station, the hospital, the fire station, the shops.
Using play dough the children were making hoses & ladders for the firemen, a stretcher for the paramedics, a stethoscope, bag and thermometer for the doctor and lots of other items.
In Junk Art, the children used cardboard boxes and a variety of other materials and objects to create their own emergency vehicle.
Other activities this month included learning the names of people who help us, their places of work, their job description , and what clothes they wear. Children discussed and wrote about what they would like to be when they grow up. We read the book ” The Giant Postman” and learned songs and poems about people at work! It certainly was a busy month !!
