December Newsletter
14th December 2016
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Christmas is upon us and there is great excitement in school as the holidays draw closer. Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.
Christmas Carols: Children will be singing carols, playing some music and reading some poetry on Thursday 22nd December starting at 11.00am. The Junior classes will commence proceedings. 3rd – 6th will perform from 11.20am. Parents are welcome to attend. Children can wear Christmas jumpers and Santa hats on the day if they have them.
Dates for your attention:
- Christmas Holidays Thursday 22nd December – children go home at 30pm
- School re-opening Monday 9th January 2017
- Staff meeting Wednesday 18th January – children go home at 30pm. Buses will run as normal on all half days.
School Quiz: Our annual inter-schools fundraising table quiz will take place on Thursday 19th January 2017 at 7.30pm in the Meadow Court Hotel. We will make contact in the New Year with further details.
Parish Bazaar: We would like to thank the Parents Council for organising a raffle and cake sale on Sunday 11th December.
Swimming Lessons: Lessons will commence in the new year for children from 3rd – 6th. We will make contact in January with the dates and costs for the lessons.
Clár Grant Aid: On behalf of the school community I would like to thank parent, Sinead Clancy, for helping to secure some funding through the Clár Government programme to improve the signage and traffic calming measures around the school. We will find out in the new year how much we have been allocated. The funding should help to make the roads in the environs of the school safer.
Clothes Collection: We will be having another school clothes collection on Wednesday 25th January 2017.
School Policies: There are two draft school policies – Data & Record Keeping and Arrival and Dismissal of Pupils up on the school website/available in the office, for your attention and input. Please feel free to make any suggestions via e-mail at kilchreestns@eircom.net or by appointment with the Principal prior to their ratification at our next Board meeting.
Word of Thanks: I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who help in the running of the school. Our wonderful teachers, Board of Management, parents and a special word of thanks for our school secretary Christina.
Teachers Gifts: I have been asked once again by the teachers to remind you that it is not necessary to buy Christmas presents for teachers. Teachers really appreciate your kindness and generosity but appreciate that this is an expensive enough time of the year for parents.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries in relation to any of the above.
Yours sincerely.
Francis O’Connor,
Principal.
