As part of our Oral language curriculum, the children were learning all about local rescue services. To support the children’s vocabulary development, the rescue services visited our school, a visit kindly organised by parent and paramedic Conor Devine. The children were first visited by two local paramedics, and they explained what their job entailed, how they treat injuries, some of the equipment they use and told stories of accidents they had attended to. Next the children were attended to by 2 people from the Civil Defence. The Civil Defence explained to the children how they attend events such as local sports days, hurling matches, family fun days and attends to minor accidents at these events. The highlight of the day was the children’s trip outside to the ambulance. The children were allowed sit in the front of the ambulance and here the loud siren. They then moved to the back of the ambulance where they seen all the different equipment used by the ambulance crew and used some of the equipment such as the stethoscope, thermometer, and blood pressure monitor. Each child took turns lying on the stretcher and some were tempted to go for a little snooze!!! Rescue Services...
Read MoreWhoops a Daisy Angel On the 18th December 2015 the children from the Junior and senior infant classes gave a rousing performance of their Christmas play “Whoops a Daisy angel” The children and teacher Ms Kelly had put in many weeks of hard work and preparation, learning off lines, learning songs and rehearsing for the big day. The parents had also put in many hard hours getting costumes and props ready!! But all the hard work and preparation was worth it as the children gave an Oscar winning performance and sang their hearts out. Songs like Whoops a Daisy angel, we’re so angelic and I have to fly to Bethlehem were real crowd pleasers. Well done to all the children on a superb performance Whoops a Daisy Angel...
