David Burke Jersey presentation

in Recent Events, School Events | 0 comments

Wednesday the 14th February 2018 was a very proud day for the pupils and staff of Kilchreest N.S. as former pupil and All Ireland winning captain , David Burke, returned to his former national school to present us with the number 9 jersey that he wore in the All Ireland final in September 2017, when he led Galway to All Ireland glory for the first time in 29 years. This was a very kind and generous gesture by David to present such a precious memento of the occasion to his former school and the school community are very grateful to David for doing this . The presentation began with a reading of the “Hurler’s prayer” . Then 5th & 6th class recited a poem that they composed especially for the occasion. David then spoke to the pupils and staff about the experience of winning the All Ireland and what he had done when he was younger to help him achieve his goals. Then followed a question and answers session, where some very interesting questions were put to David , including how many pancakes he had eaten the previous day!!! Finally , David presented the jersey to school principal, Mr. O’ Connor . The number 9 jersey now takes pride of place on the school corridor along with the official photo of the Galway team that did us all so proud last September and it will serve as a reminder of that memorable day David Burke Jersey presentation David Burke Jersey...
